LIFTS CUP WITH HANDLE
Early Learning Activity: Self-Help 6-month-old infant
LIFTS CUP WITH HANDLE
SKILLS: The child will be able to pick up a cup by its handle, using one hand, predominantly,
MATERIALS: Table, or chair with tray, (i.e., highchair, unbreakable cup, 3 1/2 in diameter, small toy, 1-inch cube)
NOTE: In order for a child to begin to drink from a cup, here she must be able to grasp a handle and lift the cup in his or her mouth. The small muscles of the fingers and hand may need to get stronger for the child to succeed. It is easier to practice using an empty cup. An empty cup to play with is lighter to lift and there are no spills
ACTIVITY:
- When the child is in a highchair or on your lap at a table, put a small toy or cube in front of him, or her
- Attract the child’s attention to the toy by saying “see the cube “
- Plays the cube in the cup with the handle towards the child, saying, “the cubes in the cup. Where is the cube? “
- Encourage the child to lift up the cup to see toy number five if the child appears, confused, show how to lift up the hole deep by holding the handle.
